Does anyone have access to the Canadian records? I'm looking for Nelson Virtue leaving Ireland for St. John, New Brunswick. His name is shown in the passenger lists for 1865-1935 but I don't have access to the actual record.

Thanks.

Thanks Ginny, I'm pretty sure this is the one. He did work on a farm and was somehow connected to someone called Lily Loan - relative, employer ?? - don't know. I'll have to check with a relative for sure.

Thanks for the very quick response.

Hi Ginny

Should've asked - it mentions a brother, William Virtue. Do you know if this means the brother accompanied him?

Thanks

Thanks again Ginny. I'm trying to establish if this is the Nelson Virtue in my family. I need to find his parents so having the estimated date of birth is a great help. Is there any reference as to when William went to Canada?

Thanks again.

I wonder if this is the family in 1911. The mother has the right initial as the passenger listing and there is a Henry N the right age to be 'Nelson'

You didn't notice the replies there, Yvonne?

Hi Ginny

Wow, you're brilliant. I'm sure this is the correct family now. I've just got to go through my notes again.

Thanks again.

Hi Janey/Cannuck

Not sure what you mean - I thought I'd replied to everything. Ginny was a great help.

You had started another thread with the exact same question, Yvonne, and George had provided you the exact same information about the Nelson Virtue travel record in Ginny's first post.

I then suggested that you consult the Canadian white pages on line, where there is a listing for surname Virtue in New Brunswick, which it seemed might have been Nelson's destination.

If you click on the "My threads" link on the left of your monitor, you will see that thread (with 2 replies). You can still reply there, and George will see it if you do.

By the way, I googled the name, since it is unusual, at google.ca, selecting pages in Canada.

Had you seen this?

http://www.islandregister.com/2007obits.html

for Prince Edwad Island:

Death Notices From Local Newspapers And Other Sources For The Week Ending December 5, 2007:

VIRTUE - Sarah Ruth (MacFadyen) of Charlottetown and formerly of Riverdale on Nov 30th at age 92. Wife of the late Nelson Virtue. Central Queens Funeral Home: -- http://www.peifuneralcoops.com

Here is the full obituary:

I am not reproducing it because it has the names of living people in it -- but it is those names you want, so do read the page.

If you then search here:

http://www.whitepages.ca/

for Virtue in NB (there are no listings in PEI), there are actually a dozen. One has initial D, which would match a son named in the obituary. You will also find (use "PE" as the location) listings for at least one of her brothers (Gordon) named in the obituary and probably her brother-in-law (Don).

Well there we go then!

I wasn't sure whether Yvonne is looking to make contact with living family, but if so, it should be fairly easy now. ;)

Hi Janey/Canuck

My apologies - I must've had a blond/senior moment because I have no recollection of that first thread but it's there so I must've done it. I will reply to George and apologise.
I will now digest all the fabulous info. Thanks again guys.

Let me know if you don't manage to make it from the obituary to the phone listings, or whatever, and I'll give you a boost, if you are wanting to contact his son/grandchildren in Canada (where I am, although not east coast).

Yvonne

Yvonne Report 21 May 2010 22:19

Thanks for the offer, I'm in Canada too - not east coast. You seem to have more access than I do so let me digest all this info and I'll get back if I have to.
Thanks for all your help.
