Thomas William Unwin

Claire Report 17 Oct 2007 13:00

Thomas William Unwin was the father of Daphne Hilda Unwin (my grandmother), according to Daphne's marriage certificate in 1948 to John William Tippins. Daphne was born around 1900 (but I cannot find any record of her birth) so I would guess Thomas was born around 1860-1880. His occupation is listed as "Retired official (Gas Company)"

On Freebmd I can find three Thomas William Unwins, born 1855, 1857, and 1871 but I haven't managed to trace them through the census data yet to count them in or out.

We also know that Daphne had a sister who had married into a navy family and lived in Chatham, Kent. My mother understood that Daphne was born in Scotland, but we can find no trace of her there, either. John and Daphne lived in Carshalton, having moved there from Southwark which was where John grew up.

If anyone has any further information on this family, I'd be very grateful to hear from you.

Claire.
