Please someone help, am going mad !! On GR marriage index shows Lawrence Percy Todman marrying Esther Elliot in Ticehurst 14/11/1917 Ref 2B 335. Put this info onto BMD and ancestory and you get zero back ?? Have opened up search on other sites taking out surnames then widening dates and nothing ?? What am I doing wrong ? Help please

On Ancestry the marriages are only transcribed up to 1915. After that you have to look at the complete index and go to the year (1917), then the qtr. (Dec.) then look at the list of all names beginning with the letter T (for Todman).

The marrriage is definitely there on the complete index.

FreeBMD are the same as the transcribed records on Ancestry. It is an ongoing project to transcribe the complete birth, marriage and death indexes.

The marriages are only up to about 1915, with more added all the time.

Is it Lawrence Percy Todman's death you are looking for? Do you have any idea when he died?

Army records on Ancestry give his Step mother as next of kin if you are trying to find his family and there is ref. to his marriage with witness names

Kath
The last info I have on him is disch from army minus 1 eye in 1917 and marriage November 1917, then nothing. He was born 1877. Have checked emigration nothing. Only sibling of my grandad we have no personal info on.

Ancestry you neeed to look on the index pages.
On Search page right hand side has

Birth, Marriage & Death
- UK & Ireland Parish & Probate
- England & Wales, BMD Index - Updated
- English Settlers in Barbados
- more...
Click on updated one and it will open search pages for looking at them

Thanks Janice, I have full service rcord for him and have traced family of elliotts but no sign of him or wife Esther after their marriage. Laura Lillywhite was resident and died in Sussex.
Its just him that vanishes !!

for info

Ancestry do use the freebmd info but in their wisdom will only use it up to 1916 for free.

Better to use free bmd direct
http://freebmd.org.uk/

actual transcriptions on freebmd
births - up to 1935 but patchy from 1925
marriages up to 1931 plus qtr1 for 1932/33/34
deaths - up to 1930 with some bits up to 1935

edit - just rechecked - the one year which is still only half transcribed for marriages is 1917!!! qtr4 does not seem to have been started until recently

Thanks

if you really want to find it on freebmd you can try going to the main page and selecting search images. Follow the instructions - you may be lucky at finding the right batch 1st time
