Hiya everyone i just want to ask you all the following questions.
I have tried finding the marriage between my grand parents Ernest James Brown to a May Mills supposedly 1903 either in Nottingham Wymeswold or maybe Oldbury, as my Grandfather was born there.....They state on the 1911 census that they have been married for 8 years........ i have looked everywhere for this info and cannot find it. Ernest James Brown was married to a Rose Blackshaw (1900) but this marriage i have and she has nothing to do with our family apart from being Ernest's first wife and i got the name of Ernests father John off their marriage certificate....

I have the same problems for my grt grt grand parents Sarah Pushee nee Jones and John Pushee possibly between 1869 - 1873 . They are from London middlesex/Spitalfields/Holborn /Tower Hamlets area. John Pushee was married to a Hannah Burdin but she died, My grt gan is Sarah Pushee and John Pushee's daughter which is seen on my grt grans christening record. Her name is Rosetta Florence Pushee b1879.

I have platinum here on Genes and gold on Ancestry yet i still cannot find it and i've been looking for months and months now..................Should i assume they weren't married???

Also i have birth certificates (bc) so i have the correct names. My grt Gran was May Mills on my grandads bc yet i cannot find a May Mills born in Wymeswold so i am guessing she either wasn't named May Mills at birth or wasn't born in Wymeswold even tho she said she was on the 1901 (servant in Barrow upon Soar) and 1911 (Basford Nottingham) census........and now i cannot find her parents.

If anyone has any ideas what i could do i would love to hear them. My family have no clue as i have asked them. Also we believe she remarried at some point possibly to someone called Fred Lilly??? as she was known as Grandma lilly. The really strange thing is no one remembers my grt grandfather Ernest Brown, my Dad, aunts and uncle only remember her living with an 'Uncle Fred' Possibly remarried Fred around 1920's-30's...that's if she did marry him? No one knows for sure.

Thanks many regards
Rosina

Is there a chance of this marriage being the one you are after. Different middle name for him and she is Harriett but we know names used in life are not always what they were given.

is this the Rose Blackshaw who married Ernest James Brown ? Did they divorce or did she die ?

Perhaps Ernest and May weren't in a position to marry ?

Hiya everyone,
Oh my goodness thank you so very much for all the information.....
Firstly i didn't look for Rose Bell Brown in the 1911 i never thought to...what a fool i was there. I can't believe she lied on my grandada BC she said she was May Brown formerly Mills!!! I did suspect either no marriage or bigamy. I can't thank you enough Choccy this is wonderful finding the marriage between May and Fred so THEY did marry.

Prickly Holly you are right there are two Roseeta Florence Pushee's (strange i know). As for the Pushees Rosetta Mary Pushee married John Pushee B1855 (John James Pushee) he was the son of my John Pushee when he was married to Hannah Burdin. Rossetta Florence Pushee b1881 was related to my Rossetta Florence Pushee b1879 as half neice because John Pushee b1855 as half brother to my Rossetta.

Hannah died about 1868 she had three children with John. He was free to Marry Sarah Jones B1846 Holborn.

Sarah Pushee nee Jones is the definite mother for Rosetta Florence as i have both their birth certificates Sarah (mother) and Rosetta florence Pushee (child) Rossetta and John are also found in the 1891 census therefore Sarah didn't change her name. Hence i am still looking for this info John Pushee B1933 Sarah B

I really cannot thank you all enough especially for the none marriage wait till my family hear of that ....thats going to be a shock to them. I wonder if Ernest returned back to Rose Bell Brown it'll take me 10 years till the 1921 census comes out to be able to answer that one though.

Kindest regards
Rosina

i thought the same as you but when i went to Wymeswold Parish records on line. That Annie was Annie Mary i am thinking the same as you as in Annie May being born in Loughborough.

I still would appreciate some help on this one if possible guys.

If you get the marriage certificate for Frederick Lilley and Annie May, you hopefully will get her father's name and occupation, and can then track her back through the census returns.

If Frederick is of the same age, you might even find some military records.

Andrew

Andrew Report 10 Mar 2011 14:14

May/Mary? Probably need the original birth cert to settle that one. Loughborough registration district includes Wymeswold.

Prickly Holly hiya,
I don't think the Sarah Wilcox is mine as i know her maiden name is Jones on my Grt grans Rossetta bc and Sarah b1845 would've been too young to have married and divorced a Wilcox to become Wilcox and not Jones.

Having said that i truely appreciate your advice and helping in me with this.
Now i am wondering if these 2 people ever married.......looks like two sets of Grt and grt grt grandparents had children out of wedlock hahaha.

Kindest regards

Choccy,
Thank you and yes i have already sent off to Nottingham registry office for the marriage certificate between them i really cannot thank you enough for finding that marriage as now i can continue to find her parents.... i really was looking too late never thought it was as early as 1916 as none of my aunts and uncle called 'uncle Fred' Grandad, and yet they were all born after Grt Grandma lilley married Fred.
