Claire no I dont have the Marriage Cert. Harriett was my Great Grandmothers sister. I know by buying the Cert it will give me the Fathers name so that I will look into in a few weeks. I try to limit myself to one cert every so often. Bless You

Hi Marion

What a puzzle this is turning out to be.

I think this is the family on the 1871 England Census about Francis Neate
Name: Francis Neate Age: 23
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1848
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Susannah
Gender: Male
Where born: St Pancras, Middlesex, England

Civil Parish: St Pancras
Ecclesiastical parish: St Martin
County/Island: London
Country: England

Street address:
Occupation:
Condition as to marriage:
Disability: View Image
Registration district: Pancras
Sub-registration district: Kentish Town
ED, institution, or vessel: 25
Neighbors: View others on page
Household schedule number: 53

Household Members: Name Age
Ada Gibbons 2
Alfred Gibbons 4
Elizh Gibbons 6
Francis Neate 23 was a carpenter
Susannah Neate 24 born Suffolk

Name for the children given as Gibbons but I think this is the family and the christian names tie up with the 1881 census. Checked to see if Susannah’s maiden name was Gibbons, but could find nothing.

I have been unable to find either Francis or Susannah in 1861 or 1851 but without Susannah's maiden name it is difficult. I cannot find a marriage around mid 1860s either.

I have checked for other children on the 1891 and 1901 censuses but without success, and I can also find no deaths during this time. So all in all a complete mystery family.

I know Claire thought it was quite a long way from Deptford to St Pancras but the whole family seem to have made the move so I think this could be right.

Anyway, I hope this has helped and good luck with your research.

Pat

Marion the 1901 that I found for Alfred shows him married to Harriett, place of birth as Deptford & he's a furniture porter however census have been known to be wrong in the past. Deptford & Pancras are quite a distance from one another.
Do you have Alfred & Harriet's marriage cert? This would show his Dad's name & occupation.

Thankyou Pat and Claire. I am just a little confused Claire as I rather liked the sound of Pats finding for Alfred Neill whose parents were Francis and Susannah. Francis profession was a Staircase Maker. Claire you found an entry for Alfred Neill being born in The Union Workhouse Greenwich but I cannot see Francis and Susannah,s name. Can you help sort this out. Sorry ladies. It must be the early hour here in OZ and my mind still is not at its best for thinking.

I appreciate your help.

Hi again

Forget the previous one, as this could be Alfred in 1891, because if you look on the IGI below, there is an Alfred John Neale born abt 1867 to Francis and Susannah in Deptford which could tie in with the 1881 census. Also his father Francis was a staircase maker.

Hi Marion

This is the only one I can find for 1891, but not sure -
1891 England Census about Alfred Neale
Name: Alfred Neale Age: 27
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1864
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Lizzie
Gender: Male
Where born: St Pancras, London, England

Civil Parish: Bloomsbury St George
Ecclesiastical parish: Bloomsbury St George
County/Island: London
Country: England

Street address:

Occupation:

ED, institution, or vessel: 1
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
Alfred Neale 27 was a bottle washer
Alfred Neale 2
Edward Neale 1
Lizzie Neale 23

Was Alfred perhaps married twice. 1891 with wife Lizzie – I have found a marriage between Alfred John Neale and an Elizabeth Jessie Billing in Hackney June Quarter 1886, but cannot find a death for Lizzie, so he could marry again. Also occupation “bottle washer” does not seem right. Confusing or what?

Thanks Pat,
Yes Alfred was a Furniture Maker but I just dont know where to search for him through the Census. I need him in 1871/81/91. As Harriett and Alfred married in Greenwich 1901 perhaps Alfred was born in Greenwich? I have found a few on the Census one being born in the Union Workhouse but I,m just not sure thats why I need help please.

Can anyone help please as my subscription to Ancestry ran out a few days ago. I am searching for any information regarding Alfred John Neill born approx 1861 to 1869 who can be found on the 1901 Census with wife Harriett born 1864 Aldershot. I have Census for Harriett so no search required there but I do need help with Alfred John Neill. From memory the 1901 Census states he was born in Pancras but the two were living in Deptford. I have found Alfred James Neill for Pancras but this is not the one. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Alfred married Harriett in 1901. I am not sure if any children were born to them. I cant find a death either for Alfred John Neill but I do have Harrietts Death I believe
for Deaths Mar 1916
