Can any body help me in my search for my wifes grandfather. His name was Frederick Peter Smith and he lived, when not at sea, in Seaham Harbour where his wife Sarah Jane Smith lived and ran the local fish&chip shop. We have been told by other relatives that he was a merchant seaman and was away for long periods at a time, and was lost at sea sometime 1914-1918 due to his ship being torpedoed during the war. I have no info on the ships name or where it was lost. Sarah had a large family and upon her death one of the elder daughters looked after the children. |
