When some one frist told me the parents to Olive i thought great But then Robert had to go and mess it all around so if i ignore him like the census do and just put it down that Olive son just worked for some one with the same surname as his mum's maiden name YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 25 Jan 2008 00:16

BUT the certificates will also give the address of the bride and groom, and that may be the clincher (or not of course!)

Pat

There are 3 families from the IGI

Isaac and Sarah Lomas

Joseph and Olive Lomas

and

John and Mary Lomas

- - - -
You had 1841 entry for a John and Mary:-

Ann Lomas 15
James Lomas 15
John Lomas 55
Joshua Lomas 30
Mary Lomas 55
Mary Lomas 20
Robert Lomas 12

Then Alan found ANOTHER John and Mary on the 1841:-

Elizabeth Lomas 6
George Lomas 14
Jacob Lomas 12
James Lomas 2
John Lomas 40
John Lomas 10
Margrate Lomas 15
Mary Lomas 40
Olive Lomas 8

Then Margaret found what she thought was the same family you had found on the 1841 but on the 1851, and said she thought you had the worng one:-

Cock Yard, Chapel en le Frith, Derbyshire
John Lomas, head, 52, farmer of 88 actres & publican
Mary, wife, 50
Margaritt, dau, 26
George, son, 24, lime carter
John, son, 20, lime carter
Olive, dau, 18, dressmaker
Elizabeth, dau, 15
James, son, 12
All born Chapel en le Frith except wife, Mary born High Lane, Cheshire.
Isaac Coffin, servant, widower, 55

Alan looked on the 1841 and said there were TWO families with John and Mary as parents, living on different farms.

- - -

If you lay it out

... there are TWO families with John and Mary Lomas as parents

..... a family with Isaac and Sarah

......and a family with Joseph and Olive Lomas

................ and whoever else pops out of the woodwork!!

I understand but if i find his marriage for his fathers name it still wold be the same out come as both familys had same named parents but differant children?????????

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 24 Jan 2008 23:44

as I said

............. don't make assumptions

You need to find one of his marriages, then get that marriage certificate to see if he ahs the same father as Olive

You will probably find these families are related ........... but the connection will be back in the 1700s somewhere

Here is Olive's marriage registration (from www.freebmd.org.uk). This is a free site, that you can use to get bmds from September 1837.

Marriages Jun 1853 (>99%)

Ball Edwin Macclesfield 8a 216
Lomas Olive Macclesfield 8a 216

If you buy this certificate, it will tell you the names of the two fathers, and their occupations, and the address of the bride and groom. That will help find which fmaily Olive belongs to

To order a certificate go to www.gro.gov.uk, click on Ordering Certificates Online at the right of the screen, and follow instructions.

They will ask for the GRO reference number ... that's the set of two numbers following Macclesfield.

Each certificate costs £7, but a certificate is the ONLY to be sure that you ahve the correct peopel together.

Have you looked on the Mormon site (www.familysearch.org)?

You have to be VERY careful with information from the site, because a SUBMITTED report has been submitted by a member of the church and may be wrong (or even invented!!).

However, if you go to Advanced Search, and then International Genealogical Index, and concetrate on EXTRACTED records which have been taken from the actual records, you do get leads. They still ahve to be double checked (as does ALL information you obtain!).

I found these Olive Lomas' on there
