Can anyone please help me to find in the 1861 & 1871 census:

Thomas Steel c1832 Barkby, Leicestershire.

I have Thomas aged 19 in 1851 living with his mother Ann & sisters, Sarah, Mary & Elizabeth ( he aslo has an older sister - Ann).

Many thanks

Hi Reg

No, I have had a look on :www.familysearch.org for 1881 and cant see him at all! ( he may have died) - or (deported)? or (anything as yet unknown).

Can you see him at all in 1861 & 1871?

Hi Vera

yep, sometimes its really difficult - names are often mis-spelt.

whilst you are looking for Thomas, I may have found him a 'new' sister (just a possibility at this point).

I need to find the birth record for:
Maria Steel, born c1825, Barkby,Leics
are her parents: Ann & James. ??

What do you think about the Thomas I found in 1861...?

Hi Vera

Yes, sorry.... it could be MY Thomas - difficult to say at this point, need a bit more info about him really.
I notice the Thomas you found is 29, a boarder in Alfreton and an (unmarried)? railway labourer.

I can only find him in 1851 when he is 19 and then he is a 'labourer' - so it could be him.....
Wish I could find the same person at a later date !
as you never know who may be living with him then - quite often another name will give you a clue as to whether you are on the right track or not.

I am still looking for :
the birth details of
Maria Steel, born c1825, Barkby,Leics
are her parents: Ann & James. ?? as I think she may be a sister of Thomas.

Kind regards
Gill

Hi Vera

1851 census
New Bridge St., St. Mary, Leicester
Ann Street (should read Steel), head, widow, 50, laundress
Sarah, dau, 21, dressmaker
Thos., son, 19, labourer

also living at the same address:
Henry Bottoms, head, son-in-law, 29, blacksmith
Maria, wife, 26
Amelia, dau, 6
Wm., son, 4
Charlotte, dau, 11 months
All born St. Mary, Leicester

It may be nothing , but I wanted to 'check it out' ...Henry Bottoms is described as Son-in-Law. - so if they were related to Ann Steel, presumably his wife, Maria would be Anns daughter.

Gillian,
I have found Amelias birth details, I know it means sending for a birth certificate, but it would settle the maiden name of her mother.....you would then if she was a Steel.
