Find Ancestors

I have been searching a marriage of Michael Kelly born 1861 in Ireland and an Esther surname unknown (born Liverpool)

I have searched all the Michael Kellys and tried to find a match but with no results.

The first child was born in 1884 in Liverpool and the last in 1901 in Liverpool.

Would anyone have any ideas how to search for this please.

With such a common name I would buy a birth cert of one of the children.

I did think of that and waiting for it to come but was just seeing if there was a way to look without the wifes maiden name.

I found a marriage record in 1882 in Camberwell for a Michael Kelly and Esther ? but I'm having trouble with BMD site (it's real slow). The record hasn't come up yet.

You need to find Michael etc in 1891.............to find out who his wife was at that time.....

I also found a James Kelly, a fewer years older, also at this Industrial School. Found an Esther Kelly living with mother-in-law. According to the 1901 census, Michael was a dock laborer. Perhaps he was out to see between 1891-1901.

This could explain the 3-5 years age gaps between the children if the father worked for a shipping company. He may have had to go out to sea. Just an idea. Couldn't find anything else that matched on the1891 census.

According to Catherines marriage certificate in 1918 her father Michael was an iron labourer they lived in Everton.

I think I have a few things to work on now.
It also looks like certs from the GRO are fast I ordered Catherines birth cert on Thursday so hopefuly this will arrive early next week.

The only match I could find myself was the Esther Gaul one as well.

Would it be possible if someone told me how to find the marriages easier.
I use the BDM marriages and search the pages like that, am I doing it the slow way.

On freebmd, you can enter both names....in this case 'Michael Kelly' and 'Esther'......then just click on 'find'...........any possible results will be thrown up by the system.

Some searches require you to be more specific.......it depends mainly on the names.......how common they are.....or not.

Trial and error really............

Give it a go with these names , and you'll get an idea of how it pans out...........

This only applies up to about 1920, of course...........
