My gr-gr-grandmother Ellen Brethet nee Forsythe (1845-1897) came over to Canada with her 2 young sons, James and John, just after her husband died in about 1866. John was my gr-grandfather, but I don't know much about James. I believe he stayed in Toronto with his mother, who ran a boarding house, and must've married a McGee, while John was sent to a family in York or Simcoe County and he eventually settled near Bond Head, (south Simcoe County), Ontario, Canada. James was born March 16, 1862 in Dromore, Co. Down, Ireland. His father was Martin Armstrong Brethet (c 1840-1865). |
