I have heard 2 versions of the history of this name - 1 is that it is from a Huguenot line that moved to Ireland, and the 2nd that it is from the English name Braithwaite. Does anyone have any knowledge of this? The family came from, I believe, Dromore, County Down, Ireland, and came to Canada in the 1830s.
