I am trying fo find out about my grandfather who was born c1914 and married Emily Dicker in Lamberth abt 1938.They had four daughters.Joseph was last known in Neath/Swansea in 1942.
A Joseph was killed in an accident about that time and I would like to read the obituary to see if it was him.
Is there a web sight that allows that.
Is it possible to look at the electorial register on-line for m1942
If you can help can you e-mail me at [email protected]

Peter, as Suzi says, no surname is showing.

Secondly, its very unlikely you could read an obituary from 1942 on line. You would need to go to an archive. Failing that you may need to venture £7 to buy the death certificate.

And lastly Im afraid there are no electoral registers for the war years.

If you give us some more information perhaps someone with local knowledge can help.

Hi Suzi
All I know about Joseph Williams that he married Emily Dicker in Lambert in 1938 and had four girls Josaphie Lillian Gwedaline and Shirly. I know he was in Neath and Swansea because thats where my mum and sister Shirley were born.
I was told he dissapeared in the war and beyond that nothing apart from I have his marrage cert which tells me his father was called Henry
On my mum birth cert it has Josephs occupation as a labourer on a golf course.
A joseph Williams was killed in an accident in 1942 near swansea and I have the death cert which gives his address at that time. I want to know if its possible to see if there was an Emilly at the same address
Thank you for your reply and this is all I have to go on Its not much and I realy want to find out more about my grandfather. As far as I know all four girls he had with Emily are now gone

Hi..I think your best bet is to go to Swansea library or see if they have an on-line helpdesk. Check the electoral roll for those years at that address. Also see if there was a local newspaper report of the accident which may say.."his widow Emily"...or something to help identify that as the right person. Also see if any golf courses round that area have kept their employment records.
If they only married in 1938 I'm thinking they were pretty quick to have four children in the time before his "death" or "disappearance".
I think you will be struggling to find Joseph's birth as there will be so many Williams families with father William.
The other thing you could do would be to apply for a will for the man whose death certificate you have...incidentally..who registered that death?

A few things to think of anyway.

Good luck.
