I'm looking for any information of my great grandfather James Taylor born around 1855, married Mary Ann Hills, this was her second marriage, she had 3 daughters to her first husband James Hills who died and then had 3 children to James.
Sarah Ann, James William, who was my gandfather, he was born in 1890 and Mary Jane. They lived in Blyth Northumberland in 1885 when they married.

Hi, thanks for the information. James William would of been 10 in the 1901 census. he was married in April 1915 at the age of 24, his birthday was June. so he was born about 1890.

Regards Marilyn

Hi Marilyn, Jane,

Just playing catch up.

Mary Ann Hills b app 1850 per 1901 census
m?
Children with them in 1901:
Sarah Ann b abt 1885
James William b abt 1890
Mary Jane b abt 1892

Seeking James b 1857
1901 in Bedlington confirmed (age out by 10 years)
1891 not posted
1881 not posted
1871 poss in Dorset
1861 poss in Glouc

Hi Marilyn,

The marriage certificate between James and Mary Ann Hills may name James' father.

I see from Jane's posting of a possible sighting of James in 1861 age 3 in Gloucestershire and born in Croydon to James and Isabella that James was from Scotland and that Isabella and the two older sons were all born in Berwick on Tweed - which fits reasonably well with a move back to Northumberland by their son James. Is the 1861 listing the one you were looking for?

All the best

Marilyn

Hi Seaham Lass

That's excellent, ties in all those loose ends from Gloucs/Isabella etc!

Can't find them in Berwick in 1851 though.
The age gap between Joseph and Robert (see 1861) makes me think that this could be James second marriage ? Maybe !

Ivy

Ivy Report 13 Jan 2008 18:33

- yes indeed I see what you mean - or poss Isabella's second marriage?

Thanks for all the information on James Taylor that everyone has submitted.
I have a copy of James and Mary Ann Hills Marriage certificate. James was 29 and Mary Ann 30 Marriage 30th May 1885. James father was also called James and Mary Ann's maiden name was Liddle. Father who was Thomas Liddle, but he was deceased when they married.
James had a Robert Taylor who was a witness at the wedding, so his mother could of been Isabella looking on the 1861 census.
I'll try and follow that lead.
