I have the discs for the 1881 census and have been checking on Henry Scott. I have found the correct family at House 1, Court 2, Short Acre Street, Walsall (Piece 2825 Folio 81 Page 26). It is as follows: Henry 36, wife Rosina 34, son Henry 11, SON JOHN 8, SON JOHN 5, son Joseph 3 plus father in law. Could anyone look at the original image to confirm whether this is correct, a mistake by IGI who produced the discs or a mistranscribed entry. Many thanks. |

Thank you for looking folks. I have known same names to be used in the same family but usually when the first one has died. This is the first time I have ever found two same names both living. I wonder how they went on - Did they shout John No. 1 and John No. 2??? |

Thank you very much Debra. Looks as if the John aged 5 on 1881 census should have read Fred !! How on earth did they make Fred look like John on the return. Many thanks. I will now try Freebmd and see if I can find a birth for a Fred Scott circa 1876 Walsall and if I do find it, we have cracked it. Thanks again. |

Is this your family in 1891? |

Jean and Janice - yes that certainly appears to be then and as I said to Debra I am bamboozled as to how Fred became John on the 1881 census. However, I have been unable to find a birth for Fred Scott on freebmd. Never mind, at least the mystery of two same name siblings has been solved. Thanks again. |

There is a James Scott born 1876 on BMD. Looking at the image it could be... Trouble is I can't find him in 1891 or a death. |

This family is puzzling me to death. On 1891 census above there is a Jane Scott described as sister. I assume sister to Henry, only problem is Henry didn't have a sister Jane. Also on 1891 a Tim aged 14 who would have been 4 on 1881, trouble is no Tim on 1881. And now a James Scott aged 26 on 1901 making him born 1875/76 - is this John Scott 17 or Fred Scott 15 on the 1891? Or is he a new addition ? My mind is spinning. |

Janice - thank you for confirming the marriage which I had actually got. The business of John, Fred or James is awkward to sort out, but hopefully I will get there in the end. |
