I have Found a James W Green in the deaths 1980 who i think may be my uncle died in the cleveland area. i have his birth cert he was born 14 January 1912 Gateshead area. Is there any way i can find out for sure if his mother was called Frances Green nee Williams, but she may have married again. thanks.

What age is given for him in the GRO entry for his death? (You didn't give a quarter, or I'd have looked.)

Does it match with the birthdate you have?

The death certificate would give the date of birth, if the person who reported the death knew it accurately. It wouldn't give a mother's name, but it might give another family member's name and that could help.

James William Green died 1980 dec qt C. Cleveland gro ref vol 3 page 2220. Born 14/1/1912.

James W Green born 1912 mar qt Gateshead gro ref 10a 2052 mother Williams. Since you know when your uncle was born then yes this is more than likely his death in 1980.

Meet on-line shopping!

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Ordering certificates on line is a breeze.

I recommend opening an account there -- that way, next time you want a certificate, you don't have to put in all your credit card and personal info all over again.

The steps are straightforward, and you just copy the info that you have -- best to put the minimum required info.

If you do that, you might get the wrong certificate once in a while. But that's better than putting too much info and having it be wrong, and not getting a certificate that would have been the right one.

You and Margaret crossed in the post. She's given you the registration details there so you don't have to go looking for them again.

The info you need is:

Sep-Oct-Dec quarter 1980
GREEN, James William
District: Cleveland
volume: 3
page 2220

Copy that web page address I put above ... okay, newbie, here's what to do. ;)

Click on "file" up in the right corner of your screen.

If it says "file", click on "new", "open new window".
If it says "new window", click on that.

Now down at the bottom, click on the tile for this window.

Take your mouse and click it at the beginning of this:

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Drag your mouse to the end of it, so it all turns blue.

But your mouse over top of the blue part, and this time click the *righthand* button on your mouse. You will get a list. Click the lefthand button on your mouse on "copy".

Now go back to the other window you opened, by clicking on its tile down at the bottom.

Put your mouse in the white box up at the top and click. If there is anything there, delete it.

Click the righthand button on your mouse. You will get a list. Click the lefthand button on "paste".

There. Now click on the arrow over on the right, or the "Go", and you will be there.

Here's an easier way -- the way I do it whenever I want that address.

Go to

http://www.google.co.uk

and search for

gro certificate order

and then just click on the one that says "Registration Services - Certificate Ordering Service".

;)

Hi Doris. The reg number I gave you is for C.Cleveland which probably stands for Central Cleveland not just Cleveland.
This office closed in 1996 and moved to Redcar and Cleveland or Stockton on Tees. or Middlesbrough depending where people died.

You have to put the correct district C.Cleveland or GRO will say they cant find his death cert and sent half your money back.Gro only check for the info you have given

I have found his death on the local registration office.

Google Teesvalleyindexes.

James W Green died 1980 Middlesbrough ref no. M-C-15-0-155. You can phone them and order over the phone with a credit card . Have a look at the site its great for marriages as it gives the spouses name not just a possible like GRO.
