My grandfather Norman Charles Chamley born 1916 Lambeth was married before he married my grandmother. All i have on the first wife is that her name was Lillian, she died 25th April 1947 aged 26yrs ( Eton Vol 6a page 303 2nd Qtr 1947). |

Sorry Samantha, I have checked the marriage index from Jan 1938 until she died and I cannot see a marriage for Norman Chamley at all. |

I have to say that i dont know, and ive looked at the damn thing so many times, i find it all so interesting looking at all the old documents, but i have seen Lillians grave/headstone and she is a Chamley, Norman used to live next door to my nan so she remembers him being married. |

Suppose the only other thing would be to order a death cert and see what that has to say for itself, its got to have something on it. |

Samantha, is it at all possible that they just lived together and she took his name without actually marrying? (possibly just told everyone they were?) |

Maybe, nan did say she came from a poor family and when they got married no-one from her side of the family showed atall (quite sad really). |

Samantha, unfortunately the new information does not really assist us, we have checked the marriage index and a first marriage does not appear in there. |
