The faith healer was Edward George ('Ted') Fricker. I was asked a few times if I was related to him (I'm not) when I worked in the Harringay (North London) area because the surname was relatively uncommon there.

There are lots of FRICKERS in Wiltshire and Somerset. My FRICKERS were agricultural labourers in Wiltshire and then coal miners in Somerset. Several Genes Reunited members have trees for these FRICKERS.

In the case of FRICKERS in America at least, I suspect the name comes from the town of Frick in Switzerland which isn't far from the Rhine. There seem to be lots of FRICKERS in that part of Switzerland. It is conceivable that the ancestors of UK FRICKERS travelled up the Rhine and across the North Sea (in the late Middle Ages?) but what would have been the incentive? I've seen a few suggestions for the origin of the name but all seem speculative.

I have the Hampshire Buriel Index(to 1837) and there are 52 buriels for FRICKER-mostly Portsea but elsewhere in Hampshire.
If I use the "soundex" search it brings up 280 which includes FRECKER and FREAKER.
There are FRICKERs in Berkshire in the 1851 census too,

Well it seems to me that the 'Fricker' name is rather a difficult one to trace. My husband is the only male for the last three generations that i do know of. I would dearly love to know of his ancestors and their history, if anyone has any information regarding the name 'Fricker' and its origins i would greatly appreciate any help involved. Yours truly Lynley Fricker
