Morning. I have also found that the mothers maiden name is sometimes given as a middle name for a child. So you could try finding the siblings on a census and then seeing if an unusual middle name is given or an initial and trying to match that with the parents marriage.

I found last week; John H Rimmington and found that his mothers maiden name was Heys.
Then on the absent voters list he appeared as John Heys Rimmington. BINGO !

That's where ancestry gets its bmds from


BUT you will not find anything other than the child's name, quarter of birth, and registration office.

Mother's maiden name wasn't put on the GRO registration until 1911.

You have to buy the certificate to get the other informatiom.

SOMETIMES, if you go to the county bmd you will get the mother's maiden name, even as far back as the 1840s. Lancashirebmd does that, but other counties don't.


so try putting (your county)bmd in to the search engine.

Gail.. Ive just found his birth records on ancestry and there isnt a mothers maiden name on there , i think its coz its 1910.. Is there another record anywhere else i could find it from? Or is it a case of a birth certificate ? cheers Gail xXx Rachel..

Hello everyone xXx I have subs to ancestry but cant seem to find the other half of a marriage.
The marriage i have is Mabel M (Gibbins) married Davies july/aug/sep 1937 Birmingham.. The code is 6d 1727 .... BUT when i look the other way round i cant find the Davies who married Mabel. I need his forename. Can anyone help please ? Maybe a different search place may help. I forewarn you though.. There are trillions of us Davies' ... cheers if you can.. Rachel xxx
