ok i think there is probably 2 alexanderers and i don't think she married as my grandads name was william burton not william surrell

Pn;y ONE Alexander/ra/rina/rer Burton born ca 1865 +/- 5 years in Bourn, Lincolnshire turns up on ancestry.


I think we do have only ONE person, who moves around!!

Mary Burton never married so we don't know the father of Alexandra. You will need to buy her birth cert and see if anything is mentioned there.

I also couldn't find a marriage for an Alex* Burton to a Thomas Jones between 1880 and 1920


I found 2 marriages for an Alexandra Burton, both wih a middle name (different), in the early 1900s.

Hi Karen,

If you eman Alexandra Burton, here is what looks like her birth registration


Births Mar 1863 (>99%)

BURTON Alexandra Bourn 7a 315


Bourn is in Lincolnshire.

If you send off for this certificate, it will tell you her parents names, and her mother's maiden name. If, as you imply, she was born in the Union Workhouse, then be prepared to find that she was illegitimate.

To order a certificate, go to www.gro.gov.uk, click on Ordering Certificates Online in the box tot he right of thescreen, and follow instructions. They will ask you for the GRO reference number ... that is the 2 sets of numbers at the right side (ie, 7a 315).

Each certificate costs £7 .... but certificates are the only sure way of knowing you are following the right fmaily.
