I've had a look at Arthur's death reference and I see that his age is given as 30 in 1935. If this is right then he could have been 30 anytime in the year before he died, so his birth could be 1904 or 1905.

The nearest births to Darlington or Stockton that I can find are these two:-

Arthur Johnson
Sept. qtr. 1904, Middlesbrough, 9d, 629

and

Arthur Johnson
Dec. qtr. 1904, Sedgefield, 10a, 118

The only thing I could suggest is that you order either of these birth certificates and as a reference checking point you give father's name Edgar.

Because they could have been born anywhere, I don't know what else to suggest as there are so many with the same name.

I had a look in the 1901 census to see if I could find an Edgar anywhere in the north east, but again there are a few.

Do you know if Arthur had any daughters? If he did he may possibly have called one of them after his mother. You could then look to see if any of the Edgars in the 1901 census had a wife of that name.

Thanks Kathleen. I got it wrong Arthur was born 1905 and he died 1935 Richmond N.Yorks.His father edgar died 1943 age 62 richmond, North Yorkshire.But where they originally came from, I have no idea, and if you have any suggestions, I would be most grateful.On Arthur's wedding certificate 1928, place of residence was Hopewell,Piercebridge.He was a farm labourer and edgar is listed farm labourer.

Do you know whether Arthur had a middle name? This is the only Arthur Johnson birth I can find in 1903 in either Darlington or Stockton on the partially transcribed index:-

Can anyone help with Arthur Johnson born 1903 died abt 1933 in north Yorkshire, his father was Edgar, a farm labourer in 1923.I cannot findout where either of them were born, as there is such alot of Arthurs and Edgars.My guess is that they are from,Darlington,stockton area.
