THOMAS CARROLL / JOHNSON

I know nothing of my gfather's family apart from that they were from Cork. He (Thomas) would've been born around 1912, he was brought up as a Carroll but found out in later life that his father was actually called Johnson and that Carroll was the name of his mother's second husband (they were a Catholic family so I assume his father died). He moved to England (around Birmingham somewhere) in his late teens/early twenties and ended up in Lincolnshire where he died in about 1977.
ANY leads would be gratefully received.
