Hello, fellow descendant of an immigrant to Owen Sound!

(Oh, oops, over-eager. You're in England, I think.)

My gr-grandparents and their kids landed there in 1907. The gr-grmother's sister (both she and my gr-grparents had rather a lot of kids) and a couple of sons of one of her brothers also settled there, so there are numerous households in the 1911 census from my lines in Owen Sound, and some families who stayed there long after (mine didn't).

For a town of about 5,000 at the time, it seems to have been a popular destination for immigrants from the UK.

I gotta split for the weekend, but I'd be happy to do some sleuthing in the censuses and BMDs for you later. On a quickie search of the 1911 census, there are several dozen Harrys in Owen Sound, but no Colligans. The originals and transcriptions are appalling, so that doesn't necesary mean they weren't there.

Quite likely they immigrated later, though -- ? And unfortunately privacy laws make many records inacesssible -- no births after 1906, e.g.

Canada411 has no Colligans in Owen Sound at present.

Pass on whatever more details you may have, and we'll see what we can see!
