I am trying to find John MacDonald (Spelling varies) he was a mariner, father called Peter who was a merchant. He was already a widow when he married Elizabeth Jarvis, nee Billows. She too was widowed with 4 children. They married in West Derby, Liverpool in 1878 and had a daughter Florence in 1879. I can't find any of them in the 1881 census. Elizabeth died in Dec 1883, in July 1885, John MacDonald then married her daughter, also Elizabeth, in West Derby.(!!!) They had a son, John Franklyn, in 1886. Elizabeth then died in 1888, the young children then going to an aunt.
I thought I'd found him with wife no.1 in West Derby, a master mariner, 5kids, in the 1861 & 1871 census, she died in 1871. Fitted perfectly til I found him with another wife, also called Elizabeth, in 1881!! So unless he's a bigamist, I don't think he's my man!! Our only other line of search is that John Franklyn mentioned 'Cousin Cal' in his will, (Mrs C Suter, Prestatyn) so far searches of Caroline McDonalds have not got back to a Peter. Any info would be great.
