Hi,

Wondering if anyone has access to the records before 1837 of St Giles Camberwell, Middlesex?
Trying to find my ancestors marriage and his sons birth.
John Winkworth married an Elizh/Elizabeth someone probably around 1831-1832 as their first child John was born around 1833, second son Edward Kellick Winkworth born around 1835.
Dont know the mothers maiden name but it maybe Kellick because they tended to use it as a middle name but not guaranteed?
Hope someone can help.
Regards Kim.

Pallot's marriage index has a marriage in 1831

John WINKWORTH and Elizth DOUGHTY

The database on Ancestry states that the parish is Castle Church Staffordshire (never heard of it!)

The image of the Pallot card appears to show Camberwell.

Perhaps some other subscriber could give it a look over and see what they think

Tracy,

can you check the Pallot image on Ancestry and see if you think it could read Camberwell

Hi,

Thank you so much Pete and Tracy for all your information.

This definately looks like John and Edwards date of birth! Interestingly Edward named his son John Henry Winkworth so he's named after his uncle.
Fantastic if you've also found their mothers maiden name, which i was totally wrong about.
Do you have any way of finding out more on John Winkworth, i.e. whether he came from Camberwell/name of parents maybe?

Many many thanks.

Kim.

I have just checked all the other entries on Ancestry which occurred in 1831 in Camberwell and I am convinced that the name of the parish on the WINKWORTH card is identical to the others in Camberwell St George.

Hi,

Just had a look on the church of laterday saints site and found the following:

Eliza Doughty b.1802
Alethea Doughty b.1803
Eliz Doughty b.1805
Ann Doughty b.1806
Emma Doughty b.1808
St george the Martyrs, Southwark, Surrey.
Father: Henry
Mothe: Mary

This would fit with the marriage of john winkworth and Elizth Doughty taking place in Camberwell St George?
Although not sure how accurate Church of laterday is?

Kim.

Hi,

Tracy you've just given me some fantastic new info, could you tell me their occupations and their relationship to each other on the 1851 census? I only have the names of the oldest children! Is john listed as a widow, because his wife maybe visiting someone else on the day of the census?

Many thanks Kim.

Just checked on ancestory and i found

Elizabeth Winkworth died 1849 Camberwell also found a Elizabeth Winkworth died 1843 St Giles so maybe John lost his mother and then his wife?
Also think i found a link with the Reeves.

James Reeves married Eliza Doughty 6/5/1820 Saint Mary Magdalene Bermondsey so looks like Johns brother & sister-in-law living with them in 1851.

Thank you Tracy,

Couldnt get access yesterday so first chance to reply.
Starting to fit what i have, i cant properly make out John's occupation on his son Edwards marriage certificate it looks like something stable keeper so that would fit with a horse dealer i guess? I know Edward was a Compositor so the horse connection must have ended with John.
Just need to find out what John's father also John did and whether his wife was Elizabeth Kellick?

Many thanks for all your help.
Regards Kim.
