Emily

have you thought about getting the marriage cert? As advised previously, it would tell you the details of Charles's father.

You have no way of knowing where he was born, unless you can find him on a census.........and you need his father's name to ensure you are following the right line...........

Emily, Do you think the birth of Charles Crook above is correct?

I have the 1901 census which show her as Lily and that she was born in Wembdon, Bridgwater, Somerset. I have managed to trace her but just nothing with Charles Crook

Do you know was she Lily or Lilian?

Possible birth's

Births Sep 1886
Boyce Lily Barton R. 6a 19[56]

Births Mar 1886

BOYCE Lilian Amelia Windsor 2c 4_6
BOYCE Lilian Catherine Portsea 2b 535

Another Thought - could Lilly have been married previously, as they would have been 38 years old when Frederick/Robert was born. That might be why you can't find a marriage of Boyce to Crook.

Births Mar 1886

CROOK Charles Newton A 5b 121

This could be Charles birth.

Emily, had a look on FreeBMD but couldn't find the marriage or birth reference number,

Hopefully someone else can look at Ancestry for you to get the reference numbers, then you can order the certificates.

Good luck

If you don't have Charles and Lilly's marriage cert, you would benefit from obtaining it.

It would confirm his age and occupation, plus the name and occupation of his father, thus enabling an accurate search on the censuses.......

BTW....love the idea of a Crook being a policeman!

I have Charles Crook as born in 1886 and died in 1931. I think he was from Devon and I know in his later life he was a policeman. He was married to Lilly Crook nee Boyce (1886 – 1966). The only child that I know of was my grandfather. I always thought his name was Robert Crook but found out from my granny that it was in fact Frederick and he was born in 1924.

Emily can you give some rough dates, when was Charles married, when was he born, when first/last children might have been born.

I am trying to find any information on my father’s family the Crook’s. I have come to a blank and I’m only at my great grandfather!! I know his name was Charles, he was married to Lilly. He was a policeman and I think from Devon. He died quite young. My grandfather was Frederick but everyone called him Robert. Any help at all would be great.
