Hello all, I've tried and tried to find him on the IGI - but can't!!

I want to find William Brewer, born Dudley Hill, Bradford in 1853 on the 1881. His family are all present in Leeds (wife Matilda and daughter Alice Ann) staying with her parents:

Dwelling 7 Halton Tce
Census Place Leeds, York, England
Family History Library Film 1342085
Public Records Office Reference RG11
Piece / Folio 4521 / 17
Page Number 28

This suggests that he was away working as he was definitely still alive!!

How can I find him please?

Thanks,
Andy

Hi andy, I have just had a quick look about and nothing jumps out at me. I notice from the 1891 that the children were born Morley. Will take another look.

Do you think that from William's occupation on the 1891 he might have had a van ???

Back soon, Joan

There's quite a gap between the ages of the kids in the 1891 census. Either some children died or perhaps William was away from home a lot of the time.

What was his occupation according to his marriage certificate? A soldier?

Thanks Kath,

I think it's unlikely to be him - the heckmondwike birth is too far away to be him.

I've just been looking at a William Bower who was boarding with a William Marsden in Sherbourne and wonder if this is him. I just don't like the job description - Iron Turner, it doesn't fit with what he has done previously, but I guess if he had to travel to find work he'd do anything.

Andy, from the 1891 he is a fish and potato fryer, on the 1901 he is a coalminer. Am I on the right one ? Joan

You are Joan, which indicates he did change professions - perhaps the Iron Turner is him after all?

He is clearly away from home working somewhere - just where and what was he doing?

Andy, Just a thought.....do you have William on the birth certificates of any of the children ? Maybe it might give an occupation or him as an informant with an address.
The W Brear found may be him with the Yorkshire pronunciationof Brewer; I don't know... I am from Lancashire !
