The cert will tell you how each of them was, plus the names and occupations of their respective fathers.............

I can guess why he was a bit reticent about his roots........his birth was originally registered in OND 1941 under his mother's name............the 1947 entry is a re-registration (presumably after his parents got married)

The original details are

ROLES Dennis C L. MMN ROLES Southampton 2c/55 OND 1941

To find out about his antecedents, you need to start with his birth cert, which will have the full names of his parents.

Here is the info you need to obtain it

NEWBY Dennis C L MMN Roles
Southampton (oops.........there's a cross-ref.........bear with me)

Hi all im new to this site and would like to find the family of my Grandad Dennis Newby who passed away 25/07/2005. Unfortunatley he did not give any information out about his family (not even names) for some reason and I would just like to know what they did and how far back I can go back not sure at all where to start.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated
He was born 20/10/1941
he married my nan Lydia newby 1964
Had 3 children Kim, Sandra & Les

I know none of his parents names or names of siblings
