Yes hers (Ellens) was awful. she lost her dad and brother before 1901 and then two children her other brother,her sister her husband in next 6 years and theh herself in 1920 leaving 3 orphans-terrible-makes you feel really grateful! |

Yes thats my Ellen on 1901-she ws at the house of Mercy then was trained for domestic service and placed in Exeter (Where her fanily were) in 1903-she had my grandad at her workplace in 1905-possibly her bosses child as she was allowed to stay on and rthe baby was given/taken away and brought up by his new parents who give me my family name. They were apparently paid £200 to take him-a lot in tose days.she then married Charles Parkhouse the year afetr. |

Yep-thanks I have all stuff about ellen and her family,jobs etc-its just after her death i'm stuck! Her sister went to live in Bristol -Jessie Burrington-son Albert-don't know if thats any help? |

On the 1901 census there's an Ellen Sargent age 20 born Exeter. She's an inmate in the Devon House of Mercy. |

My grandad had a little sister called Margaret Parkhouse born 22 May 1907.Sadly my grandad was given away in 1905 so never knew her. Her mother was called Ellen Parkhouse and was married to Charles Parkhouse who died in 1917 and Ellen herself died in 1920. I do not know what happened to Margaret at all. She had a brother called Charles (1910) who ended up in Birmingham as an adult - he has died now but apparently he was in an orphanage.There was also a sister calld Constance born 1915-her school record simply says she left the district! not much help at all. ALl were from Exeter,Devon. I have tried before but if anyone new can help me I'd be relaly grateful. A grandaughter of Charles (1910) seemed to think that he visited a lady called 'Meg' in the westcountry as an adult-could this be Margaret? I don't have any accsess at the moment but if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. Did search the marriage indexes for a few years a while ago-but have mislaid the info-and had found nothing anyway-But cannot remember which years I searched. Any help appreciated please. |
