Merchant Mariners?

Hi Diane
It's the Crew List Index Project which is apparently a searchable database with about 270,000 records on it. There were a couple of people on here who would do look-ups but I think they have stopped now. Don't know any more than that. Maybe if we googled there might be a site.

Hi Barbara,

I have ancestors who are mariners... I noticed a lot weren't present on censuses, but have subsequently found them on "vessels" on censuses.

What is the mariners index?

I know there have been threads for looking up merchant mariners and I wondered if there was one at the moment. I'm looking for a Charles or William Charles Cannell who is listed as a ship's carpenter on a marriage certificate 1889 and as a mariner on the 1901 census. Any trace of him on the Mariners index? He was living in the Liverpool area at the time.
