my uncle who died in 2001 i have his name a place which is cyprus and he was a major , i also have a army number , im waiting on a dob, wonder if anyone can help please thanks puss xx

Hi Puss,

Unfortunately, military deaths only go up to 1994 and he doesn't appear on overseas deaths.

I'm really not sure where you could look next. Sorry i couldn't help.

Was he buried in Cyprus?

There are 2 areas of Cyprus that come under British jurisdiction and if his burial was in Cyprus he is most likely to be in a military cemetery in either the Eastern Sovereign base area ( probably Dhekelia ) or in the Western SBA near Limossol, Akrotiri etc.

Someone on GR was helped by a Cyprus resident re. a request to find a grave.
Maybe a request for help in Cyprus would get help?

Your Uncle is more likely to be buried in Dhekelia,What was his name ? you can do a search for him here if you know his full name,so am i right he came from Durham ?let me know please.

The regimental number you gave relates to him being a soldier. What was his regimental number as an officer? - he probably got an LE Commission following 22 years service. What Unit was he with?

If his name was Peter William Lee then his date of birth was 17 06 44. His Army number as a commissioned officer was 526045 hope this helps.
