If you think that mary Weightman might be William's wife, the closest one that I can find on the 1881 census is a Mary Whiteman age 19 born Ryton, but she's a prisoner at the police station in Rugby. Do you want to claim her?

I think one way might be through local papers - depending on what she did. You can narrow it down to what night the census was taken, probably something like 31st March 1881, send off an e-mail to the local archive office, send as much detail as possible about her and ask them to look at the local papers for the area a few days either side of that date to see if there was any article.

Sorry, Deb, I didn't respond because, honestly, I don't know what to suggest. I think Alison's suggestion is good. One slight change, though, the 1881 census was done on April 3.
Actually we don't really know that this Mary Whiteman, prisoner is your Mary Weightman.
Good luck!
