my grandfather was born alfred walter kettle in hackney in 1910.
on his record it doesnt say the mothers maiden name, could anyone please tell me how i would go about finding this information?

You say on his record. Do you mean his birth cert?

i dont have access to that information, i looked up search records on this site. when i looked for my nan who was born a year later, they had the motherts maiden name, but not on his.

They only started adding mother's maiden name in 1911. Before that it's almost guesswork - unless the name is rare or it's a smallish area - but even then you can't be 100% sure.

If it's your grandfather you'd need his birth cert anyway - to give you the correct parents' names etc.

On records it only gives the mothers maiden name from 1911 but it would give her maiden name on the birth cert

You can send off for the birth cert from the GRO site. Will cost £7.

how do i do that? what site do i look on? the only info that i have is that alfred walter kettle was born in 1910 in hackney, married in 1935 and died in 1944!!! i only have oct,nov or dec as his months of birth!

if you go to www.gro.gov.uk you can order a certificate using the information found on the page you looked at (the record)

i have tried to obtain a certificate for either flo's and alfred's marriage, or a death certificate for alfred but as i dont have the exact date of marriage or death, i cant get one!!! anyone???????????/

i have ordered birth and marriage certificates for alfred kettle, and my mum has told me he had a brother called cyril who was nearer my dads age ( dad born in 1937. any help?
