I don't think they will be online. I would ring the county records office and ask them if they have these records before you travel. If you don't live in the area then I would ring them and they might do a look-up for you.

If the court case was in the Magistrate's court then you should find the Magistrate's Court Record books at the county records office or a local archives office for the area. If they are over 30 years old they are open to the public.

I found the record of when my grandmother took my grandfather to court in the 1920's for maintenance after he deserted her and their children. It gave details of how much maintenance he was ordered to pay, how much court costs and even the name of the policeman who served the order on him.

You should be able to look for trade directories for details of his business in the records office too.

I wondered if anyone could help me find a court case in chatham/ gillingham kent

my gg grandfather edward charles herbert hicks owned a boot or shoe shop in chatham or gillingham , it would have been around 1901, he was involved in a dispute over land or another shop building built nearby, he took somebody to court and lost the case and had to pay the court costs.

He then went to portsmouth with his wife rose and opened 2 shops in portsmouth.

How can i find details of the court case and any details of the business he owned in either chatham / gillingham or portsmouth.

Thanks
