You can't look them up even for a fee. Divorce records are not available to the public. I believe they are subject to the "70 year rule" ie they will be available to the public 70 years after papers were filed.

80% of divorce records are at National Archives up to 1937. If not in this period, or one of the 20% not there, you can get a copy but there's a search fee - I think it's £25. What about the local paper for the area - they may well have reported it, but then as you haven't got a date, it would be a long search!

These are not available for the public to search. The search has to be done by the Courts Service.

I think the search costs is £25 for each 10year period (yes expensive). If I remember correctly for an extra £1 you can get the Decree Nisi which will give you details i.e. why abandonment, adultery (it may even name names!) etc.

I've found them helpful both on the phone and in person. If you do visit they'll only search two years while you wait. Give them a call.

What details are you hoping to find or do you just want to confirm a couple actually got divorced?
