Hi Ethel.
Thank you for the information my name is Colin Sykes my father was Edward .I am sorry to be ignorant but how do I go about getting the marrage certificate .I live in South Africa .My father Edward was married before to a Edith Sykes who he devorced in1946 and then came to live in South Africa where he married my mom .All I know is form his birth certificate is that his father was Henry Sykes and his mother Janet (Palmer) Sykes .I do not know if he had any brothers or sisters. That is it I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me or point me in a direction.

I am not connected but had a look for you and found quite a lot, but it needs checking backwards to be sure all this is your family.

Henry married Janet. 1909 July/Sept. Qtr. reg in Salford. vol 8d 288.
Copy of this certificate will give their ages, their Father's names and occupations. also witnesses who may be siblings.

Edward was born Oct/Dec Qtr. 1913. Registered in Stockport vol 8a 74.

1841. This is only a faint possibility.

Ages on 1841 always out somewhat, and relationships are not shown.
If this is right, it is possible that John was married before to a Mary.

Marriage for a John Sykes to a Sarah Dickinson. 3.8.1840. Cathedral. Manchester. Needs checking.

Birth of a Joseph. 1859. July/Sept. Qtr. reg in Stockport. Vol either 8a 57 of 8a 75.?? copy of this should give you his Mums maiden name which should help confirm or deny the marriage shown.

These need checking.

Trying to find infomation on Henry Sykes born in Cheadle in 1885 he married Janet (Palmer) Sykes he was my fathers FATHER Edward sykes born 1913 in Sockport .Would like to hear from anyone who could help me .
