I got it -- and a big duh to all of us.

Galway.

Tried searching for Patrick in other years, and a different one turned up at the top of the list. (Kenny, married to Agnes, born 1843, so probably different -- I checked both spellings because my own Kenneys in Northamptonshire seem to turn up under both.)

That one is transcribed as born in Galway. So if we all look at the image now, I think that's what we'll see! More or less. ;)

Jeez I am getting tired of seeing that page asking me "Kathryn, what would you like to do today?!?" when what I would like to do is submit the post I clicked to submit ...

... and so of course it lied to me and posted it twice ...

Hi again, It does look like Gabury when I googled it it gave me Gabonay!!....It looks like there are a lot of irish surnames of that name too..perhaps its a village or town that has amalgamated with another and the name has been lost along the way!!

I can't access Irish Births and Deaths, perhaps if someone could look up for you for his birth it may help..as some people do have access the |Irish BMD

Take care and happy hunting!!

Hi Kim and Kathryn

It is Glasbury Ireland, I have just printed it off on the census translation (1871 above). I thought there were 2 more but theyre not him. There is however a William Kenney in the 1901 census married living in Aston Birmingham, but I cannot put any link to him and Patrick except for his age and birth details.

Dawn

Ill have another look at the original transcript on the 1871 census!! perhaps the translaters got it wrong!!

There's a Glasbury in Wales, but that's the only Glasbury google maps finds anywhere.

Is the info you have accurate?

Aha. Checked the 1871 census image. I doesn't say Glasbury. It says something, Ireland, and the something has a smudgy line drawn through it. How helpful.

I don't know Irish place names. I'd be tempted to read that as Gabury, but there's no such thing. Maybe somebody else can do a better job!
