can anyone tell me if i am going to find any more info at the record office than i have managed to find by having access to all the available online census and BMD records. The name i am looking for is very rare, to the point where there are only 3 listed in 1881,5 in 1891 and 10 in 1901 but i know that the parents of the 3 listed in 1881 were alive and living in Lincolnshire in 1860-70s but can find no BMD or census info for them at all, even after many hours of trawling all the handwritten BMD records on ancestry. I have however, found parish records of people with that surname from a bit further back. I was thinking they had come in from abroad but am now rethinking that, after reading in an account of a relitive who moved to America that he was born and raised here and after finding the other people i have mentioned. Is it going to be worth my time going and spending 2 days in seperate record offices, 500 miles away from where i live, or will i just find what i have already???

might be worth seeing if someone will go to the Recorrds Office for you.
Plenty of people on here are willing to do Look Ups. What records offices are you meaning?

Lincolnshire and Nottingham. I am hopefully going to Notts soon anyway to visit family but don't have long down there and don't get down often, so 2 days is a lot of my time out of just over a week. I'm happy to spend the days there if i know they will bring me more info than i've found already.

You could email the Records Offices and ask if they have anything which might be useful to you.

Have you looked for baptisms in the IGI , even after civil registration started ?

Sometimes the records in the IGI continue on until the 20th century, depends on the register itself. Most people baptised their children after civil registration started.

Have you looked at the Historical Directories on-line ? They might give some clues for you.

Have you tried A2A for the surname?

http://www.a2a.org.uk/

The search may throw up details of any records, which include the name, available around the country.
