Several possibilities for mistranscription.....

H could look like N, or even V......M at a pinch......

Try searching with forename and birth info only.

Try the 'official' 1901 site.

Some ideas to go on with

I've found all manner of mistranscriptions for my names and sometimes I put in a first name and place of birth for a family member and look for suitable shaped words for the surname that could fit.

eg.
Hicks could be Ricks, Aicks, Nicks, Rich etc.

If someone is known to have been born somewhere with an uncommon village name, a search on that might be another way of finding results.
