Hi Vicki and Margaret-great job.I've tried for him in Canada before and got nothing. That's his dob all right so it's him for sure.I'll investigate the events site you listed Margaret.I wonder if other Canadian states have a similar site where deaths are listed? Many thanks to both of you, |

That would be provinces in Canada, Joan, not states. We're not American. (We're better than Americans but don't tell them I said that) |

Just seen your last post,Margaret-thanks for the web-site addresses.Sorry about the name faux-pas.I was a geography teacher before retiring ten years ago and should have known that Canada has provinces. Please ,I'm wondering if you can shed some light on another of my tree members who moved to Canada. His name was George Cumming. He was born 1834 in Morayshire Scotland. From his father's will I found he moved to Ontario,Canada sometime before 1858.The will mentioned Toronto but I think that was a mistake-I suspect it was Tossorontio township in Toronto.A newspaper obituary in Scotland says he died 17-9-1900 in Canada age 66 and says he lived in Rosemount,Blenheim and Washington and was a merchant.I found online an 1872 gazeteer of townships and villages in Simcoe County ,Ontario and in Rosemount village on the corner of Mulmur and Tossorontio townships a George Cumming had an advert for a post office and general store. Also the 1870 head of household census has a George Cumming in Mulmur township,a storekeeper ,born Scotland circa 1835.(con.8,lot1 freeholder). My problem is I cannot find him anywhere in Canada in the 1881 census available on the Familysearch site.I was hoping to confirm a marriage from that census-an Elizabeth Arness married a George Cumming 16-3-1860 in Tossorontio. Her father was P C Arness ,Tossorontio.I've been unable to find him either.Maybe you'll have more luck searching the '81 census than me. |

That's brilliant,Margaret. You found so much for me and how clever to find him in the "81 without using the surname. Many ,many thanks. After I posted the request to you I came across someone offering look-ups in Simcoe county .She has the '61 census and some other stuff relating to the area. Before writing her I decided |
