I'm really stuck in finding my ancester James Wray b 1804 (birth found in death certs)
James married Mary Bell b 1811 (according to 1841 census)
in 1826, They had 4 children Christopher b 1827, Thomas b 1833 , William b 1833 and Jane b 1836.
James died in 1836 and was listed in his death cert as a carpenter.
I have checked the parish records but unfortunately they are not very clear and niether James or Mary can be found so I am unable to find their actual births or who their respective families were.
On the marriage cert appears a William Wray as a witness and a Jane Bell. The 1841 census states mary was born in Darlington Co Durham and in the marriage cert it list both groom and bride of Darlington Parish.
Anyone out there who is looking for the same families either Wray or Bell.
In a later census their son Christopher had a female HM Bell aged 20 staying with them / a famers daughter from Whitby. I checked her out or am still following this lead as she could be a young cousin to Christopher.
25/09/2008- Still stuck in finding the birth or baptism of James Wray and his wife Mary (nee Bell).
I suspect James may have not been born in Darlington and have attempted to find them from the banns record. Unfortunateley the Banns Record for the period covering their marriage (1826) was destroyed and I am unable to follow that lead. I am unable to follow leads on Jane Bell and William Wray (Marriage witness) as this appears to have been popular names and I have no age to verify them.
I have tried IGI records but to no avail.
Anybody have any suggestions. I really don't want to give up as this my paternal ancestry.
