Hi David,
Thanks for your help, I would never have thought of looking for Harvard as a mistranscription of Haward, there was a similar one in my Dads tree, in 1871 my great grand motherwas staying with her parents the Weedons, she was listed as Ween instead of Keen.
Regards
Chris

It looks like Almeda died:

Alineda Haward death June 1862 Bosemere Volume 4a page 353.

By 1871 Mary Jane Ling was living with her Ling Grandparents.

Mary Jane may still have been James daughter, but obviously born before they married so was christened Ling. That seemed to be the convention in those days.

Charles Pratt Haward can be seen on various census, he is noted as a Professor of Singing/Music, his wife was a Schoolmistress/Principal of a Boys School.

James P and his family can be seen on all census up to 1901.

Regards

Dave

Thank you David, for some unknown reason there is nothing in the records at the Lowestoft Public Records Office, I am being presumptious, but do you have anything more on his father Charles and brother Charles Pratt haward, the latter was latterly a music teacher in Cheltenham. James Pratt Haward married Emily Hacker in 1862 at Cosford Suffolk, did he leave Almedia as a result of her giving birth to Mary Jane Ling.
I had James P as a lodger with the Fryatt family in Peasenhall in 1861. Then next he turns up in Frampton on Severn as a tea and stationery dealer.
