Hemmings Report 6 Oct 2007 09:38

Hi Caroline,

Just an update, was talking to my Mum Eileen Hemmings. She said Dorothy's nickname was Girly. They lived in Harrow. Had two children, Margaret and william (Billy). She suffered terribly from Rheumatoid arthritis. The Girls names are Maude, Beatrice Phyllis and Dorothy. The boys names are in order Robert 1909 (Bob became a Monk or Priest then eventually left and lived with your Grandmother , with his partner, who I know nothing about.Harold 1911, Stanley 1912, Vincent 1914 and of course my Dad John 1915.

Hemmings Report 6 Oct 2007 04:15

Hello Caroline,

My dad was a Hemmings (John) and I am 99.9% sure that dotty is my faters sister. My dad was born in Roodeport in 1915. I think Dorothy as I know the name wa born in 1917 I think probably in roodeport, near Johannesburg. My grandmothers name was Louisse Sierra or Carrera, not sure, cannot find out anything. My dad has now passed. but he had a lot of brothers and sisters. This is so exciting, the first maybe response I have had. Very difficult to find out anything. Dad once told me his father Henry, changed his name by deed poll from Hendrich? to Hemmings, as evidently somewhere also the line we are of German descendants. Please get back if you think we are related, This is such a co-incidence. Kind Regards, Sandra Chapman, Nee Hemmings. I was born in Zambia, Africa in 1950.

I am trying (in vain so far!), to find the parents of Dorothea Ethelia Cecelia Hemmings and her nine other brothers and sisters! She and probably the others were born in South Africa .

Dorothea b.1906 and her parents and siblings? returned to the UK and apparently her mother (Sierra or Seana) is buried in Wallington, Surrey - my Mother born 1938 does not remember her and believes she died before she was born. Her husband was Henry Hemmings, who was a witness at Dorotheas wedding to William L Morris, b.1901 in Surrey - I don't know where he was buried, possibly Surrey aswell.

Can anyone help me please?
