In 1889 Henry joined 20th Foot Reg't aged 14 probably 'cos he had no family... I was told that my grandfather would be impossible to trace as he had no parents! Oh really!! Henry was born at the turn of 1874-75, possibly in Lewisham according to 20th/Lancashire Fuseliers records. Cannot find a birth reference or 1881 census record to match, nor 1891/1901 census entry as he was serving overseas at that time. Have good profile since Army discharge in 1901 'till death in 1951 but nothing before. |

Try a search for North Surrey District School, Croydon. This school appears to have been part of a Workhouse which took children from Lewisham amongst other places. |
