David,
If you look at the youngest child Thomas, he was born in 1841, therefore you could see what information is on his birth certificate. Jan-Mar Qtr, 1841, South Shields Page186 Volume24. You may be able to confirm parents full details better. George is also found Jul-Sep Qtr, 1838 South Shields, Page 141 Volume24.

The 1841 Census shows John King (28), Elizabeth King (25), Sarah King (10), George King (2) and Thomas King (3 months) all living in Wapping St, South Shields. John was a seaman. My wife is descended from George and we still live in the South Shields area.

I am unable to trace a DOB or DOM for John and Elizabeth (and her maiden name) Any help or links to other trees gratefully received.
