I am trying to find descendents of a William Bryson who fathered an illigitimate son by Catherine Hunter in 1848.Catherine's son James Bryson was born at Markle Mains, Haddingtonshire(now East Lothian) but his father disappeared.I have now hit a brick wall,as I can find no record of William's address or occupation. If anyone has come across any reference to this event in their family research, could they please let me know.
Avril.

Hi Jan,
Thank you for getting in touch.I also have James's death certificate,as he and Margaret Barclay were my great grandparents. One of their sons, John Peaston Bryson, was my grandad and I can remember his brothers, Jim and Alex(Eck) very well,as they all lived quite near. We're still in touch with Jim's grandson, Barclay.
I don't think Catherine Hunter and William Bryson did get married as I looked up the Kirk Sessions and found that Catherine couldn't find him.He was meant to appear before the congregation as the father of Catherines Illigitimate child, but didn't show up.She later went on to marry an Irishman,Thomas Reynolds and they had a daughter,Alison. The whole family disappear after 1861 and I can find no trace of them, so they maybe emigrated or went to Ireland.Catherine's son James was brought up by his grandparents and later his aunt Alison
