Alice Ann Wilkinson nee Weetman b.1848c Altrincham
Married George Wilkinson b.1848c Altrincham

Unable to find marriage, but must of occured between 1861 and 1881. I cannot for the life of me find them in 1871.

In both 1861 and 1881 they were in Altrincham, so they have got to be there somewhere.

I did find one census record for 1871, but it states the parent's completely different names to George. Can someone double check it for me?

Here are the names I got from 1871

Sarah Bean 7 weeks
Berther Bonokel 6
Elizebeth Bonokel 44 <<< mother???
John Bonokel 35 <<<< father???
Mary Bonokel 15
Sally Bonokel 9
Mary Jane Locket 8
Flora E Wilkinson 2 <<< b.1869 according to 1881
George Wilkinson 23
Harry Wilkinson 7 months <<< b.1871 according to 1881 census
Olen Ann Wilkinson 23 <<<< mistranscribed?

Confused!?!?

On the 71 census George Wilkinson, 23, is the son of John & Elizabeth ?(transcribed Bonokel). Presumably he's Elizabeth's son from a previous marriage. George's wife is Alice Ann Wilkinson,23. They have 2 children Flora,2, and Harry 7 months.

That's what I got from it. That maybe Bonokel was mistranscribed.

I've tried sharpening the image to see if I can make out a differen name, as Bonokel search throughout the whole of the Uk only brings back that one census!

Can the name be anything esle?

I tried looking for marriages, but nothing there either.

Looking at the 1871 again, kind of confused as to what "Son Wife (Ambiguous) " means?

That is what is stated under Alice's name.

English Lit was never my thing, neither was history til I started this. Cheers. x

The name Bonokel actually looks like Bowker to me on the image.

If the name is Bowker, this looks like John Bowker in 1861 living as a lodger with Elizabeth Wilkinson (He must have gone on to marry her - or say they were married):-

I know it's looking likely that it is bowker, but what do you think to Bowles?

Another possiblility maybe?

Just to answer your previous question, Sheena, about "son wife" on the 1871 census.
George Wilkinson is the son in the family, Alice is the son's wife, Flora the son's daughter and Harry the son's son.

A friend of mine suggested that the correct George Wilkinson in 1871 was the one who's parent's were Peter and Ann WIlkinson...

I don't know what to think?

Still confused!

Thanks Mary for clearing up the wife thing.

I'm sure that the family you found in 1871 (with the "Bonekels") Is the correct family.

"Olen Ann" is definitely "Alice Ann" on the image and the "Bonekel's" match up with the family in 1861 with birthplaces, ages etc. of Ann Wilkinson and John Bowker. And there's also the birth for Bertha Bowker that Wayne found. It all fits.

So are we saying that Ann Wilkinson is he's mother? Wilkinson being her maiden name?

That John Bonokel was he's step father? Natural?

That George was previously named Bowker?

Ok I admit defeat for the night, I got a headache now!
See you tomorrow for another sore head. Nite

I think what I'm saying is that Elizabeth Wilkinson was the mother of George Wilkinson who married Alice Ann.

In the 1861 census Elizabeth is called Wilkinson and described as single. She has a lodger called John Bowker.

In the 1871 census Elizabeth is now John Bowker's wife (although transcribed as Bonekel) and living with them is George and Alice Ann Wilkinson.
