Find Ancestors

John Jenkinson born aprrox.1877 at Newhill, Wath on Dearne Nr. Rotherham married March 1899 9c 755 (I think this is the right one )he was a rope splicer in the mining industry) how can I find which Lily Smith he married I have found five but I do not know which one. I have looked in so many places I am confused.

Only thing I can think of......if you have the marriage certificate...what occupation was Lily Smiths father?...then you can check on the census'.....just to see if that can help you.

With a Smith especially, I think you are going to have to have a marriage cert,for her fathers name.

No, the IGI isnt helping

She is transcribed as Lilian in 1901 so really, Lily/Lilly is unimportant.

She is one and the same girl on that marriage transcription - the transcriber couldnt tell if her name was spelled with one or two LL's - so transcribed as both.

* Howdo you know she was born in Rotherham????

Hi Doreen,
There is only one Lily Smith registered at Rotherham for Mar Qtr 1899....if you send for the marriage certificate including John Jenkinsons name....it will give you Lilys dads name and occupation and hopefully that will help.

On FreeBMD I think it has been duplicated.

Thanks for all your help I think you have got it right.
I do not know of any parents for John Jenkinson or Lily Smith but their first son was called Joseph and had about ten children but only five lived to adulthood. I think Martha must have died young. I will obtain a marriage certificate now so I can find out more details.

I think its the only way to go- lets hope her father has an obscure name on that marriage cert,( Like Ebineezer Aristotle Smith,) not John !!

Before you order anything, did you know her maiden name was Smith or are you hoping it was??

I knew Lily came from a farming background so I am sure you have found the right one for me.The marriage certificate should confirm this when I get a copy and I can start looking up her parentage.
