That would have been possible as thats the only age gap over 2 years between all of his kids...except his wife's Emma on all censuses, unless he married two Emmas.....mad, this has happened before somewhere else on my tree..........

Quite possible. I do have them as Buckle on one census but I can't find the paper thats I've got it written down on to check the year now!

He's also sometimes down as J Buckfield, although I thought this was just a mistake.

The name Buckfield seems to be recorded wrong alot.

She was born in Kent, he was born in Sutton, Surrey. They are in Surrey in all years...but then they dissapear for one census...

According to my dad they were travellers...but then again I've got Stephen's family back to the 1700s all in Croydon so not sure of this now.

Their son Charles' marriage certificate has his father as Stephen and he's stephen on all censuses, so I don't think it's them..

Where was Stephen & Emma born, not picking them up on the census and if i remember rightly their in Sutton.

The only marriage i can find for an Emma to a Buckfield is to a William in Croydon 1859

He was born in Sutton, Surrey and she born Plexton Kent (according to the census). I would guess they married in Croydon as the Buckfield family lived there and everything else is registered in Croydon. But you never know...
