Can anyone help I have a relative called William Tipper who married a lady called Fanny ? (dont know her second name sorry) I think this was his second marriage but not sure. the marriage took place between 1882 and 1888. I have looked on the register of marriages and there are several william tippers in that time that got married. Is there any way of looking at both names before i order a certificate as you can see this would cost quite a lot as i have found about six marriages for william already and have only done two years. thanks debbie

Try www.freereg.org
this isn't a complete site, but well worth looking at, you can check to see if the parish you want is on.
good luck

Deborah....you could look at the marriage record for the surname of the wife (marrying a TIpper)and that will give her Christian name. Then if you find the right one you can send for the certificate.
Hope that helps
