I was wondering if somebody could kindly help me with a Wedding Invitation i have found in an old Box, it's took me ages to read the writing! This is what i have.. Mrs W.G. McLeod requests the pleasure of Mr&Mrs Worthington and Family at the marriage of her Daughter Joyce Mary McLeod and Sgt. Robert Worthington, on Saturday 27th January at St Felix RC? Church Chapel Road Bankstown?? and afterwards at Band Hall, Lakemba is this Australia?? NSW near Sidney? Sadly there is no record of the year maybe 1945 as the 27 th jan falls on a saturday in this year, I would be very greatful if somebody could find this Marriage for me, but i'm afraid i haven't been able to give you much to go on, I'm assuming that Mr & Mrs worthington were Eleanor born 1874 and John 1871they lived at Glasson Dock near Lancaster....and perhaps Robert was their grandson..his father James Worthington born 1894 there is a birth for Robert worthington born lancaster in 1919 and N.O.K being james, this is taken from him enlisting at Paddington NSW Australia...this has to be him kind regards angela |

I would think the place might be Earlstown, as opposed to Barlstown......... Reg |

If Robert was the son of John & Eleanor.........when was he born? The year of his birth will give you an idea of when to start the search for the marriage......... Reg |

Robert isn't the Son of Eleanor and John Worthington, i have all their children, i was wondering if he was a nephew, i don't think he is a grandchild....John worthington 1874 had a brother called Robert born 1869 Halton, Lancaster, but i thought this was to old, but i don't know who he married, could be possible that his son was called Robert also and perhaps make sense with him being a Sargent |

Many thanks Reg, this narrows down a considerable amount of years, i just wish i could be certain on the writing of the place of Marriage it's definately a B as its mentioned twice, once as place of the Wedding then with a address to reply as in 68 Northern ? its written on a angle and the last bit is scrunched in the corner of the page, i've been looking at the index of a map but no joy, plus magnifying glass to blow up the writting, it written in ink and quite thick as of to make out the L or H... at least i have something to go on with the years and perhaps i will get to the bottom of it that way many thanks again angela |

No marriage in 1951. You can check the indexs for free at this address http://www.ancestry*co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx You may have to register with ancestry but you can do that for free. If you do look at the indexs it is the Complete ones you want, the others (apart from the ones after 1983) arent complete so you may miss something. Mhairi |

Many thanks Mhairi Queen of scots, i was wondering if it was a scottish marriage, i just wish they had put the year on this invitation, i'm wondering now if it's Australia as Gillian has just sent me a message regarding a St Felix catholic Church in Australia, my great grand parents who lived at Glasson Dock - Eleanor and John Worthington had a son - their eldest - James born 1894 who went to live in Australia and now there is a possibility that Robert Worthington may be his son or grandson, i was sure McLeod was a scottish name though...... |
